Can You Replace Just the Leather on a Belt?
In many cases, yes.
If the buckle is still in good condition and can be removed from the existing belt, it can often be transferred to a new leather strap.

How to Choose a Replacement Belt Strap
There are three things to check before ordering.
1. Measure the Strap Width
Measure the width of your existing leather strap where it passes through the buckle.
Common BeltUp replacement strap widths include:
28mm — Narrower and dress styles
32mm — Dress, work and everyday belts
35mm — Common buckle and ratchet systems
38mm — Casual, jeans and western-style belts
Don't rely on the size printed on your belt — that usually refers to the belt length, not the width of the leather.
2. Check How Your Buckle Attaches
Look at the back of your existing buckle.
Different belts use different attachment systems, including:
Chicago screws — secure, removable and easy to replace
Press studs — quick buckle changes without tools
Stitching — commonly used on permanently attached buckles
Ratchet clamps — used with track-style ratchet belts

3. Choose the Correct Belt Size
Replacement straps still need to be correctly sized for the wearer.

Selected BeltUp replacement straps are made from premium Italian full-grain vegetable-tanned leather and prepared and finished in our Brisbane workshop.
Depending on the strap, attachment options include Chicago screws or press studs.

For compatible buckles, Chicago screws are our preferred removable attachment system.
They're secure during everyday wear but allow the buckle to be removed again if you want to change buckles, resize the belt or replace the strap in the future.
For many customers, this turns a favourite buckle into something they can continue using across multiple straps for years.

Ratchet Belt Replacement Straps
Ratchet belts use a different attachment system from traditional pin-buckle belts.
Rather than belt holes, the buckle engages with a track fitted to the underside of the strap. If your ratchet buckle is still working correctly, you may only need to replace the strap.
BeltUp stocks replacement ratchet straps in several widths and finishes.

In many cases, yes. If the buckle can be removed and is compatible with one of our attachment systems, you can keep the buckle and replace the leather strap.
How do I know if my buckle will fit?
Measure the internal width of the buckle where the leather passes through, or measure your existing strap. You can also send BeltUp a clear photo of the buckle and existing belt for help identifying the correct option.

Can I replace a ratchet belt strap?
Yes. Ratchet buckles can often be reused with a compatible replacement ratchet strap. Because ratchet systems vary in width and attachment design, check your existing strap before ordering.
Are all BeltUp replacement straps full-grain leather?
No. The material depends on the replacement strap. Selected BYO buckle and Australian Made replacement straps use premium full-grain leather, while other replacement options, including some ratchet straps, use premium top-grain leather. Check the individual product specifications before ordering.
